Twistlocks

Twistlock is a mechanical locking device that is used to secure intermodal containers to the deck of ships, to trailers on trucks, or to flatcars on trains. They prevent accidental shifting or tipping of containers, which can occur during transport. The lock consists of a male and female component: the male part, often referred to as the “cone”, fits into a receptacle or “corner casting” on the container. Once inserted, the male component is twisted 90 degrees to lock it in place, hence the name “twistlock”. A well-secured container reduces the risk of accidents, ensuring the safety of crew members, other cargo, and the vessel itself.
